Clinical Expertise, Shared Through Research and National Outreach

As a Clinical Exercise Specialist, I’m proud to contribute both academically and through national outreach to support individuals with cardiovascular conditions.

I volunteer with Cardiomyopathy UK, a national charity supporting people living with cardiomyopathy and their families. My role focuses on education, clarity, and empowerment — helping individuals better understand how to safely incorporate exercise into life after diagnosis.

Alongside this, I also contribute to the academic field, including as a named author on the SAFE-HCM study — a landmark trial published in the European Heart Journal (2025). This research investigated the feasibility and safety of high-intensity exercise in people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), offering valuable evidence to guide clinical practice

Clinical Research Contribution – SAFE-HCM Study

As part of my commitment to evidence-based clinical practice, I was a contributing author to the SAFE-HCM study (High-Intensity Exercise Programme in Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: A Randomized Trial), published in the European Heart Journal in 2025.

This groundbreaking work explored the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of high-intensity exercise in HCM patients, demonstrating improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness, blood pressure, BMI, and psychological health — without increasing arrhythmic risk.

Connecting Directly with Patients at Local Support Groups

As part of my outreach with Cardiomyopathy UK, I regularly attend in-person support group meetings across the country — speaking directly with patients and families about how to safely return to exercise after diagnosis.

This photo captures one of these local events, where I had the opportunity to share guidance on exercise, answer questions, and offer reassurance face-to-face. It’s this kind of personal, community-based education that helps build trust, reduce fear, and empower people to take meaningful steps toward better health.

I was invited as a guest speaker for this webinar, delivered in partnership with Cardiomyopathy UK, to help individuals better understand the role of safe, structured exercise following a cardiomyopathy diagnosis.

Topics covered include:
🏃‍♂️ Safe & Beneficial Exercise – What types of physical activity support health without added risk
💪 Building Confidence – Strategies to regain trust in your body after diagnosis
🫀 Monitoring & Balance – Tips for pacing, heart rate awareness, and finding a sustainable routine
